Hydroxycut Weight Loss Supplement

What is Hydroxycut?

Hydroxycut is an over-the-counter dietary supplement manufactured by Iovate HealthSciences based in Ontario, Canada. Hydroxycut was introduced shortly after studies in 2004 showed significant weight loss by people using the supplement. As an over-the-counter dietary supplement, FDA approval was not required prior to introduction.

Hydroxycut was marketed to the general public as an aid for losing weight, producing energy, and burning fat when used in conjunction with a low-carbohydrate diet. Distribution took place under the brand names Iovate and Muscletech.

The manufacturer introduced Hydroxycut products in a variety of applications:
• Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
• Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
• Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
• Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
• Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
• Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
• Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
• Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
• Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
• Hydroxycut Hardcore Ready-to-Drink
• Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
• Hydroxycut 24
• Hydroxycut Carb Control
• Hydroxycut Natural

On May 1, 2009 the FDA issued a warning that Hydroxycut poses a serious health concern and its use should be discontinued. According to the FDA, 23 serious cases of liver damage have been reported. One death of a 19-year-old male has been attributed to the use of Hydroxycut. The FDA warning indicated the most serious injury linked to Hydroxycut was liver damage, which could lead to an eventual liver transplant or even result in death.
